On March 10, one day before the anniversary of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, NHK will air a special live program titled “Shinsai Kara 1 Nen ‘Ashita e’ Concert.” The theme of the 6-hour show is to use the power of music to deliver a message to the areas that have been affected by the disaster. It will be broadcast from the Makuhari Messe in Chiba and from the Sukagawa City Culture Center in Fukushima, with different music artists appearing at each venue.
SMAP, AKB48, and Perfume will appear at Makuhari Messe, and SMAP’s Nakai Masahiro will serve as the overall MC for the show. More artists will be announced later, but a total of around 10 artists is expected.
The lineup at the Sukagawa City Culture Center so far includes Kitajima Saburo, Sakamoto Fuyumi, Hitoto Yo, and Hirahara Ayaka.
The NHK BS Premium channel will broadcast the show from 4:00pm to 10:00pm on March 10. NHK General will show only a portion of the event, from 7:30pm to 8:45pm.
