Shinosuke Tatekawa tale becomes film

A new work by rakugo artist Shinosuke Tatekawa is being turned into a movie, directed by Joji Matsuoka (“Tokyo Tower”) and starring Kaoru Kobayashi.

The story, titled “Kanki no Uta” (“Ode to Joy”), is set in a small town. Trouble begins when someone at the town’s cultural center accidentally reserves the place for two different chorus groups on New Year’s Eve.

The movie begins filming at the end of this month. Release is scheduled for next year.
