Shoji Narita given suspended sentence for drug possession

Former Otokogumi guitarist Shoji Narita (41), found guilty of marijuana possession last week, received his sentence on Thursday. A judge of the Tokyo District Court gave him a prison term of 6 months, suspended for 3 years.

In September, Narita was arrested after police found marijuana in his home. He was later charged with possession of 1.689 grams of the drug.

Narita was part of Otokogumi from their formation in 1983 until their breakup ten years later. In 1992, while the band was still together, he and a former classmate got married and gave birth to a daughter. After Otokogumi disbanded, he continued a career as a solo artist. His last studio album was released this past February, followed by a live version of the album in July.
