Sugar Soul vocalist returns with new group

AIKO, once the vocalist of R&B/hip-hop group Sugar Soul, is making her official return to music after nearly ten years. Now going by the name AIKO SUN, she has formed a new unit called KAM, with a digital single set for release next month.

KAM reportedly takes its name from the Ainu word “kamui,” meaning “spirit” or “nature.” The group consists of AIKO SUN as the vocalist, former Sugar Soul sound producer ASAMOTO (Hirofumi Asamoto), and rapper MC CARDZ.

The trio will make their debut with the digital single “When the Sun Goes Down,” available on July 21. It will be available one week earlier on July 14 through the iTunes store. The group’s first live performance will be a release party for the single at Shibuya’s Club Asia on July 21.
