Takayuki Takuma directs first film

Actor Takayuki Takuma is directing his first film, while also handling the script and playing the lead role. The movie, tentatively titled “Dousoukai,” is scheduled for release next spring.

Initially, Takuma was chosen only as the screenwriter for the film. (Using the name Mikio Satake, he has previously written scripts for both the stage and screen, including the recent “Hana Yori Dango” drama series and its sequel.) However, the producers later suggested that he take the helm as director, and he agreed. Then during casting, he was also chosen to play the starring role.

“Dousoukai” depicts the story of a couple who were once high school classmates. Takuma plays the husband, a movie producer. When his wife (Hiromi Nagasaku) is diagnosed with an illness leaving her only three months to live, he decides to put together a class reunion for her sake.

Filming began on the 3rd of this month.
