Third ‘Kikujiro to Saki’ series announced

This summer, TV Asahi will broadcast a third “Kikujiro to Saki” drama series. The story is based on an original work by acclaimed director Takeshi Kitano, modeled after his own life. It first became serialized on television in 2003, and was followed up by a sequel in 2005.

Takanori Jinnai and Shigeru Muroi return as Kikujiro and Saki, the father and mother in the Kitano household. The new series actually takes place two years before the first one, at a time when the son Takeshi is in third grade. However, the drama will also include scenes of an older Takeshi, played by Takashi Tsukamoto (from the second series). Auditions are being held for the younger part.

The series will air on Thursdays at 9:00pm, starting in July.
