Third “Trick” movie scheduled for spring 2010

The “golden combination” of Yukie Nakama (30) and Hiroshi Abe (45) are returning for another installment in the popular drama franchise “Trick.” The pair will star in the series’ third feature-length film due out next year, titled “Gekijoban Trick: Reinoryokusha Battle Royale.”

Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the franchise, which started out as a 10-episode series in 2000. Two more seasons followed in 2002 and 2003, and two films were released in 2002 and 2006.

Yukihiko Tsutsumi is directing the new movie, set in a village whose leader has died. Believing him to be a powerful spiritual medium, the village holds a “battle royale” to find a new medium who can serve as the new leader. Naturally, Yamada (Nakama) and Ueda (Abe) become involved in the contest.

Returning cast members include Yoko Nogiwa and Katsuhisa Namase. New faces include Ken Matsudaira, Takeru Sato, Keiko Toda, Kaho, Naohito Fujiki, and Nana Katase. The film is scheduled to open during Spring 2010.
