Seven of Tokyo’s major sports newspapers announced their 52nd annual Blue Ribbon Awards on Wednesday. This year, the title of Best Picture was given to Daisaku Kimura’s “Tsurugidake: Ten no Ki.”
“Tsurugidake” was actually the first film directed by the accomplished cinematographer, who is 70 years old. Although the Best Newcomer prize is usually given to actors, he received it this year for his debut as a director. Meanwhile, the Best Director prize was awarded to Miwa Nishikawa, who previously won the award in 2007 for her movie “Yureru.”
Best Picture: Tsurugidake: Ten no Ki (Daisaku Kimura)
Best Director: Miwa Nishikawa (Dear Doctor)
Best Actor: Tsurube Shofukutei (Dear Doctor)
Best Actress: Haruka Ayase (Oppai Bare)
Best Supporting Actor: Eita (Dear Doctor)
Best Supporting Actress: Kyoko Fukada (Yatterman)
Best Newcomer: Daisaku Kimura, Masaki Okada
Best Foreign Film: Gran Torino (Clint Eastwood)
Special Award: Toshiyuki Nishida (“Tsuribaka Nisshi” series)
The awards will be formally presented at a ceremony on February 16.
