Tumor found in George Yamamoto’s ear

Enka singer George Yamamoto (59) held a sudden press conference on Wednesday night to share some difficult news. He is currently being treated for a tumor found in his right ear, and he has already lost most of his hearing on that side.

At the end of May, Yamamoto began having trouble hearing in his right ear. About a month later, he was treated for a broken eardrum and had the ear drained. However, a CAT scan taken early this month discovered a protrusion, and a subsequent MRI determined it to be a benign tumor. Despite the possibility of it growing, doctors advised Yamamoto not to seek radiation treatment for the tumor, as there is a very high likelihood of causing damage to his facial nerves.

In a blog entry, Yamamoto said that he was considering giving up on treatment and relying only on a healthy left ear, but after a flood of encouraging comments left by fans, he has regained some optimism and will be exploring further options. The singer also declared that the tumor is currently not an obstacle to his music, so he will continue with his 35th anniversary tour that is underway.
