Two popular owarai, Shizu-chan (of Nankai Candies) and Junichi Komoto (of Jicho Kacho), have been chosen as the leads in a TBS romance drama called “Waraeru Koi wa Shitakunai.” This will be the first time for either of them to play a starring role, though both have played minor roles before. Shizu-chan recently appeared in the movie “Hula Girl” and Komoto currently appears in “14-year-old Mother.”
The drama is scheduled to air for three episodes starting on December 1. It will occupy the Friday 10:00pm time slot, replacing “Sailor Suit and Machine Gun” after that series finishes its run. The story takes place in a department store, where Shizu-chan plays an elevator girl and Komoto plays the manager of a cake shop. The screenplay will be handled by Osamu Suzuki, who has previously written for the variety show “SMAP x SMAP.”
