Umika Kawashima covers Ryoko Hirosue
Idol Umika Kawashima (16) of the pop group 9nine will be singing the theme song for her upcoming movie “Watashi no Yasashikunai Senpai.” The song is a cover of “Maji de Koi Suru 5 Byou Mae,” the 1997 hit debut single of actress Ryoko Hirosue (29).
The original “Maji de Koi Suru 5 Byou Mae” was produced by singer-songwriter Mariya Takeuchi (54). At the time of its release, it reached #2 on the Oricon sales charts, further establishing Hirosue’s status as a rising teen star.
This time, Kawashima will be covering the song under the artist name “Umika as Yamako.” Yamako is the name of Kawashima’s character in the film, which tells the story of a high school girl unable to confess her love for another student (
Jingi Irie). Her unsent love letters get discovered by a “disgusting” upperclassman (
Satoshi Kanada), leading to even more problems for the troubled Yamako.
“Watashi no Yasashikunai Senpai” opens in theaters this summer.
