“Umizaru” gets distribution in 12 major countries

THE LAST MESSAGE: Umizaru,” currently the highest-grossing Japanese live-action movie of this year, has been picked up for distribution in 12 other countries, with more being negotiated. Since the film’s opening on September 18, it has been seen by roughly 5.22 million people and earned more than 7.8 billion yen, and it is still playing in theaters across the country.

So far, the countries with confirmed distributors are France, Russia, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, China, Taiwan, Singapore, United States, Mexico, Peru, and Argentina. The Japanese press has highlighted the fact that the list includes all 4 BRICs (an economic term referring to Brazil, Russia, India, and China).

“THE LAST MESSAGE” is the third in the “Umizaru” series, but it is the first to be done in 3D. The second film, “Umizaru: Limit of Love,” grossed 7.1 billion yen during its theatrical run in 2006, making it the #1 domestic live-action film of that year.
