Just yesterday, it was announced that Zeze Takahisa’s new film “Antoki no Inochi” has been chosen for the World Competition portion of the 35th Montreal World Film Festival (August 18-28). Today, it was revealed that Harada Masato’s “Waga Haha no Ki” (also distributed by Shochiku) will be competing for the top prize as well.
This is Harada’s third time to participate in the Montreal World Film Festival. His “Tousha 1/250 Byou” (“Out of Focus”) was shown there in 1985, and “Saraba Itoshiki Hito yo” (“The Heartbreak Yakuza”) followed in 1987.
“Waga Haha no Ki” stars Yakusho Koji, Miyazaki Aoi, and Kiki Kirin. Yakusho also starred in “Nemuro Otoko” (1996) and “Shitsurakuen” (1997), which were both in competition at Montreal. Kiki had a supporting role in “Akunin,” which took Best Actress last year for Fukatsu Eri.
“Waga Haha no Ki” is scheduled for a 2012 theatrical release in Japan.
