Yoko Minamida hospitalized after brain hemorrhage

Retired actress Yoko Minamida (76) has been hospitalized again. On Saturday night, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage and underwent emergency surgery. She has not yet regained consciousness and is currently in intensive care.

Minamida’s health has been declining in recent years. Around 2004, she began showing signs of dementia, leading her to quit show business in 2006. Her husband, actor Hiroyuki Nagato (75), has been taking care of her at home, but she was hospitalized in February for a minor stroke and again in April for a disturbance of consciousness.

Nagato has been performing in a theatrical production at the Meijiza this month. He fortunately had the day off when Minamida was taken to the hospital, but he still proceeded with a performance the very next day. He is expected to hold a press conference on Tuesday regarding Minamida’s condition.
