Yuya Takahashi’s third arrest for drug possession

Singer Yuya Takahashi, who performs under the name YUYA, was arrested for possession of stimulants on Thursday night.

Takahashi has been previously arrested for the same crime in 1998 and 2000, and was handed a two-year sentence, suspended for five years, after the second time.

At around 7:00pm on Thursday, police stopped Takahashi in the Minato ward of Tokyo after receiving a tip from a convenience store about a suspicious man entering the shop’s restroom. He was found with 0.2 grams of stimulants, which he admitted he bought from a dealer in Minato.

Takahashi is the second son of actress Yoshiko Mita and producer Yasuo Takahashi. Mita held a press conference to apologize for her son, and explained that he has been suffering from symptoms of depression. She said she first noticed his condition about a year ago, when he had left his agency and was not working. She and the other family members convinced him to stay at a psychiatric hospital for two months at the start of this year.

According to Mita, Takahashi’s depression had resurfaced within the past week, and he had already been scheduled to return to the psychiatric hospital on the 19th.
