AKB48 achieved another million seller this past week with their 25th single, “GIVE ME FIVE!” The single sold more than 1.287 million copies, easily taking #1 on the charts. The single also achieved the 4th highest first-week sales in history, behind AKB48′s singles “Flying Get” (1.354 million), “Everyday, Kachusha” (1.334 million), and “Kaze wa Fuiteiru” (1.300 million).
Actress Shinohara Ryoko (38) gave birth to her second child on Wednesday. Both Shinohara and her newborn son are said to be healthy.
Two Arashi members will be starring in separate television dramas this spring. Ohno Satoshi (31) will occupy Fuji TV’s Monday 9:00pm time slot with “Kagi no Kakatta Heya,” while Aiba Masaki (29) will take over NTV’s Saturday 9:00pm time slot with “Mikeneko Holmes no Suiri.” Both shows will be mystery dramas.
A few celebrities separately announced yesterday that they are expecting their first children. The most notable one was actress Terajima Shinobu (39), who appears to be around her third month of pregnancy. Because of her pregnancy, she has decided to withdraw from the stage play “Real Thing” (opening May 11), which she had been cast in with actor Karasawa Toshiaki (48).
Some supporting cast details have finally been revealed for the “Yamikin Ushijima-kun” movie that was announced last August. AKB48’s Oshima Yuko (23) has been cast as the heroine of the story, playing a young woman who has to shoulder her mother’s debt.
SMAP member Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (37) has been chosen to star in a Fuji TV drama series titled “37-sai de Isha ni Natta Boku ~Kenshui Junjo Monogatari~.” The drama is based on the story of a man who changes jobs and becomes a doctor at the age of 37.
Singer-songwriter Angela Aki (34) announced that she gave birth to her first child, a son, on February 17 at a hospital in Tokyo.
