This Is Love Psychedelico, the first U.S. album release from Japanese pop music duo Love Psychedelico, is set for release this May 6th from HackTone Records. The band, fronted by Kumi and Naoki, has been active in Japan for nearly a decade and has sold more than 4 million albums there. Their catchy tunes interwoven with Japanese and English lyrics speak of their peace-loving ethos borrowed from the American flower children of the 1960s. Their unique alchemy has made them one of Japan's most successful musical groups, drawing sell-out crowds to the 38,000 seat Budokan Stadium in Tokyo.
This year, backed by Los Angeles-based independent label HackTone Records, Love Psychedelico will finally enter the U.S. market with a collection of 13 handpicked songs, re-mastered by legendary engineer Joe Gastwirt (Tom Petty, Brian Wilson). "We've seen the warm reception young America has had for Japanese fashion, film, and culture, and seeing this, it felt like the right time to take our music to the U.S.," notes Kumi, pixieish vocalist of Love Psychedelico. “If it changes some preconceptions and brings the world together a little bit, then we've done what we set out to do."
In choosing the songs for This Is Love Psychedelico, the band poured over their full catalog to select the music that they would introduce to their American audience. The album will include "Lady Madonna," "Standing Bird," and "Your Song," all bona fide hits on Tokyo airwaves. "At the university, we were the only students listening to American music like Dylan and Joplin, and it brought us together," recalls guitarist Naoki. "Coming to America represents a big chance for us to figuratively share the stage with the icons that created rock 'n' roll."
Kumi and Naoki formed Love Psychedelico in 1997, while studying at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. Through their music, they are committed to promoting the values of Love and Peace throughout the world. They were chosen to perform at the first World Peace Music Awards, an international awards show that also featured performances from INXS and the Black Eyed Peas. They have also made repeat appearances with Yoko Ono at the John Lennon Super Live concert, performing songs made famous by the late Beatle and peace activist. At last they are coming to America...and they come in peace.
